SANDIA PARK, N.M. — A photograph circulating through New Mexico political circles appears to show Republican state Rep. Stefani Lord holding a phallic sex toy toward a man during what appears to be a social gathering.

The image was republished Sunday by Auntie Barnes, a Substack writer questioning Lord’s background, judgment, and qualifications for public office. Barnes attributed the original photograph to 2nd Life Media, which previously published political commentary criticizing Lord and fellow Republican Rep. John Block.

Barnes reported that the man pictured with Lord was wearing a Bandidos Motorcycle Club patch, which was blurred in the version she published.

The Raton Range has not independently established when or where the photograph was taken, who originally photographed it or what occurred immediately before or after the image was captured. The photograph does not, by itself, establish criminal activity or an ethics violation.

What it does raise are questions about judgment, professionalism, and the standards voters should expect from an elected official.

Lord has represented House District 22, covering portions of Bernalillo and Torrance counties, since 2021. She is seeking another term in the November election. Her official New Mexico Legislature profile does not list an occupation.

Public officials retain private lives. However, when photographs of an elected representative’s conduct circulate publicly—particularly images involving sexually explicit objects and individuals displaying motorcycle-club insignia—voters are entitled to ask for an explanation.

Lord should be given an opportunity to confirm whether the photograph is authentic, identify when and where it was taken, explain the surrounding circumstances, and address whether she believes the conduct reflects appropriately on her office.

The image is also being circulated alongside considerably more serious allegations about Lord’s background. Those allegations should not be treated as established fact without certified records connecting them directly to the representative.

That distinction matters.

A questionable photograph can raise legitimate concerns without proving every accusation being made against the person pictured. Responsible reporting requires separating what can be seen from what others merely suspect.

The Raton Range will update this report after Lord is given an opportunity to respond and additional information concerning the photograph’s origin becomes available.
